Thanks, all. I had the most fun with the details (the bomb and dynamite, mostly). Thinking of expanding it to a medium figure piece for next year's Twist and Shout competition (a bit too big for small, I think). Add a floor, the logo, random other weapons on the floor.

Here's something I produced at the Florida Super Jam: Spy Vs. Spy!

4  General Category / General Discussion / Twist and Shout room share on: January 14, 2013, 03:14:57 PM
Hey all,

I just got back from Florida Super Jam and had an absolute blast! I'm headed to Twist and Shout and would like to share a room as I did at FSJ, hopefully with someone who already booked the room and got the discounted rate. I'd prefer to share with many people to make it cheaper and I don't mind sleeping on the floor. I'm a full time traveler (gotta be cheap) and do it all the time with the aid of an inflatable mattress pad.

I'm a 29 year old guy, very clean and respectful and pretty hard to bother. At FSJ I slept only used the room less than 6 hours a day, 5 hours of sleep and less than an hour to shower and get ready. Hope I can find someone on here, else I'll be sleeping in the jam room >=)
5  General Category / General Discussion / Florida Super Jam - who's in? on: December 20, 2012, 11:27:06 AM
Will I meet any of you at the Florida Super Jam? Any chance anyone wants to save money by sharing a hotel room? I'm doing the same thing at twist n shout but my friends I'm sharing with can't make the jam. I'm a traveling twister and have to save as much money as possible.

I am! It'll be my first one and am pretty excited about it. Unfortunately I'm going to be pretty out of practice as I'm traveling for a while.

I can't bare to not try to impress people. Plus, I think it's just good business. My theory is impress the kid, and get a $1. Impress the parent, you might get $5 (or $10, or even $20) AND a party. Make people remember you.

Other than Jonathan Fudge (youtube: yourballoonman), there's Josh Sizemore (joshsize89), The Balloon Bandit is in Orlando (theBalloonBandit), aaaand....I think that's all. You should definitely check out the Florida Super Jam (, Jan 9th-12th. It's in Orlando, $130 and you'll meet tons of twisters, local and from afar. See ya there >=)

Naeno, I don't like using pictures either, but my point was I will be working in non-English speaking countries and wanted to find a way around having to make a new text menu for each country. I was musing about using cartoon animals, ones that look like the animal and not the balloon representation. Therefore, still a surprise. I don't like using a menu at all so in English speaking countries, I won't use one at all.

Miss Balloonatic, not a bad idea about pics without labels. I couldn't do a menu board that way, wouldn't be able to carry it but I might do a booklet. I've seen twisters do that. I think pictures of cartoon animals would be best, that way they're surprised when they see the finished creation. I'll do my best to provide pictures.

The time has come. At the end of October, I'm quiting life as I know it and traveling for an undetermined amount of time, at least until next summer. Now, I typically travel light, just with a big pack but, of course, I will be bringing balloons. Since I plan on doing it for fun and profit, I don't really want to compromise what I make by not having all my colors. This means I'm going to need another, smaller pack for the Twist 'em Up apron and stock of balloons.

Other than that, it's just got me thinking about the logistics. I imagine I will mainly be busking, probably won't be staying around for too many parties (though it would be nice to get some gigs if I can connect with other twisters around). A lot of the traveling with be in English speaking parts (US, Australia, NZ) but some will be in Asian countries. Do you think a random creation would be best, or a poorly made menu? Any ideas for a traveling tip jar that isn't my hat that will convey that people should GIMMEMONEYGIMMEGIMME! ? What other logistical issues can you think of?

Yup. The effect my Twist 'em Up apron has on people was worth the price alone.

My Sharpie art is typically awful, so printed rounds are my best friend. Plus, I'm not the quickest twister but I make quality work, so anything that saves me time is worth it's weight in gold in my eyes, so I go through a fair amount of Spidey heads. I've also found many people are very surprised when they see printed balloons and it apparently makes me look quite professional.

My favorite Spidey design to date.
